Mantra is a wonderful meditation practice to help us gather our scattered minds. The sanskrit mantra SO HUM, meaning I AM is powerful at calming the mind and the nervous system so that rest can be acheived. SO HUM aligns us to the vibration that is ususally unseen by us due to the plans we are making, the stories we are retelling and the solutions we are trying to come up with. The vibration of SO HUM is a space where we are free from all those things. We are free from expectations and the labels and roles we play within our community. SO HUM reminds us that we are more then those labels and material ideas and possesions. The more we connect to the simplicity of I AM the more we attract balance and stability in our lives.
The next time you are in an Asana (posture) yoga class, active or restorative, chant SO HUM or I AM with every breath. Use this mantra the next time your mind is running wild creating an uneasy feeling or the next time you are lying awake in bed just wanting to sleep. Inhale SO, exhale HUM and feel the shift!
